Excursion day for prospective Neuburg civil engineers

On November 15, the third semester students of Sustainable Civil Engineering at THI visited the sewage treatment plant in Neuburg and the waste recycling plant in Ingolstadt.

At the sewage treatment plant, our students were able to experience first-hand how wastewater is treated and which technologies are used. It was particularly interesting to gain an insight into the various phases of wastewater treatment, from mechanical to biological to sewage sludge disposal. The tour enabled the students to combine their theoretical knowledge with practical applications and develop a better understanding of the importance of wastewater treatment in modern infrastructure.

At the waste recycling plant, they were given an exciting insight into modern waste disposal and the use of residual waste and bulky waste to generate energy. The presentation of the entire process was particularly interesting - from the delivery of the waste to incineration, energy generation and the environmentally friendly disposal of residues. The tour gave the students the opportunity to see for themselves the complexity of thermal recycling and underlined the importance of a well-functioning circular economy.

Many thanks to the teams at the Neuburg sewage treatment plant and the Ingolstadt waste incineration plant for the exciting insights and valuable impressions.
